You can trace back the history of online encyclopedia to Rick Gates in 1993. Afterwards Richard Stallman in 1991 proposed an open source concept. Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger formally launched Wikipedia in January 2001 in line with the Ward Cunningham 2013 pioneering work on concept and technology. Today, Wikipedia can feature more than 26 million free articles in 285 languages, generated by over 39 million official members, not to speak of the horde of articles from anonymous contributors.

If you are seriously interested in creating your page on Wikipedia, you have to follow these five steps:

1. References

At the outset, you need to select the topic on which you want to write. Be sure that you provide references and citations, even without the which your article is more apt to be rejected. So, you need to choose your topic carefully and look for appropriate references.

2. Research

A frequent reason for articles getting rejected by Wikipedia is that it has already published an article on the subject chosen by the writer. Here again, you need to do your quest and select the right topic. The safest way to get the best topics for writing is to simply type "WP: RA" within the search engine available on the Wikipedia website. This helps help you save sufficient time and frustration as a result of having your article rejected.

3. Registration

Having conducted your quest and decided the topic on which you will write, you are expected to register your account with Wikipedia. Though registration is not mandatory, there are benefits of getting registered. It will help you getting recognition for the articles. Moreover, it enables you to correspond with other writers on Wikipedia and you are also informed if somebody carries any modification in your articles.

4. Editing

For that advantage of writers, Wikipedia provides "Sandbox", an independent editor on its website. Since the program is within the website, you don't have to download it. Having completed your article, just copy/paste it into "Sandbox."

5. Submission

Having thus created your article, you're ready to evaluate the same. Observe that it is without grammatical errors and contains the required references and citations before you send it to Wikipedia for review.
