You can trace back a brief history of online encyclopedia to Rick Gates in 1993. Afterwards Richard Stallman in 1991 proposed an open source concept. Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger formally launched Wikipedia in January 2001 in line with the Ward Cunningham 2013 pioneering work on concept and technology. Today, Wikipedia can boast of more than 26 million free articles in 285 languages, generated by over 39 million official members, to not speak of the horde of articles from anonymous contributors.

If you are seriously interested in creating your page on Wikipedia, you have to follow these five steps:

1. References

At the start, you need to choose the topic on which you want to write. Be sure that you provide references and citations, in the absence of which your article is much more apt to be rejected. So, you should choose your topic carefully and look for appropriate references.

2. Research

An ideal reason behind articles getting rejected by Wikipedia is that it has already published an article on the subject chosen through the writer. Once again, you need to do your quest and choose the right topic. The safest way to get the right topics for writing would be to simply type "WP: RA" within the search engine on the Wikipedia website. This can help save you sufficient time and frustration because of getting your article rejected.

3. Registration

Having conducted your quest and decided the topic which you will write, you're likely to register your account with Wikipedia. Though registration is not mandatory, there are advantages of getting registered. It will help you getting recognition for the articles. Moreover, it enables you to correspond with other writers on Wikipedia and you are also informed if somebody carries any modification on your articles.

4. Editing

For the advantage of writers, Wikipedia provides "Sandbox", a completely independent editor on its website. Because the program is incorporated in the website, you don't have to download it. Having completed your article, just copy/paste it into "Sandbox."

5. Submission

Having thus created your article, it's time to evaluate the same. Observe that it's devoid of grammatical errors and possesses the necessary references and citations before you send it to Wikipedia for review. If the editors discover the content acceptable and the references are in place, you'll be informed of their publication. At times, you might be asked to provide additional citations for the article. Nevertheless, so long as you follow the suggested guidelines, your article is going to be published finally.
